Do You Need Guitar Lessons?

I tried learning from a Beginner’s Guitar Book when I first began playing guitar. I could learn a few simple melodies, but it was frustrating and didn’t yield the desired results.

Then, I started taking guitar lessons with an experienced instructor and was hooked! I was making real progress; I could play my favorite songs, played with new friends I wouldn’t have otherwise made, and was confident to start writing my material.

After 2 years of Lessons, my Guitar Teacher left the school to pursue another opportunity, and I was placed with a new instructor.

I became bored quickly, as the guitar lessons were repetitive, and while I was learning new things, none were applied to real-life situations or had anything to do with my specific goals.

I started skipping lessons because they weren’t as important to me, and I didn’t feel I was getting enough value from them.

About 1 year later, I quit taking guitar lessons altogether, thinking I could teach myself just as well.

I continued to learn from different books, YouTube videos, paid online courses, etc. There is a lot of great information out there, and I was learning various new things.

But…

I didn’t realize I had learned many lousy playing habits, and I was missing out on techniques I didn’t know existed that would have helped me achieve the goals I hit now more than a decade ago!

It was a hard truth to face that if I had invested in continuing to take guitar lessons with a better instructor years ago, I would have saved myself years of frustration.
